Fixed braces

Fixed braces

If a straight smile is something you have always dreamed of, then you've come to the right place. At Pallant Orthodontics we have a range of braces available that can straighten your teeth and give you the smile you want to see in the mirror.

How do braces work?

Braces are made up of three key components:

  1. small brackets which are bonded to the front surface of your teeth
  2. thin metal archwires, which connect these brackets, and
  3. elastic bands which help to apply pressure to the brackets and archwire to move your teeth into a straighter position.

When most people think of braces, they immediately think of the traditional metal braces which have acquired the nickname, “train tracks”. Traditionally, braces were made from metal so these small metal appliances were rather visible on your teeth.

Empower braces

At Pallant Orthodontics, we have chosen to use the Empower brand of traditional metal braces. These braces by American Orthodontics are modelled on the traditional method of metal braces and use brackets and archwires to more your teeth into position. However, they come with a modern twist.

The Empower system uses interactive brackets known as self-ligating brackets to move your teeth into position. This is done using low friction and light forces which potentially reduce the number of visits required. Furthermore, Empower braces offer greater comfort than standard braces as the brackets used are small and smooth.

Empower braces are suitable for anyone requiring orthodontic treatment and who would like a more aesthetic appliance fitted.

Clear braces

Clear braces work like traditional metal braces do with a small bracket fitted to the front surface of your teeth and an archwire connecting them together. The difference between clear braces and traditional metal braces is the material the brackets are made from.

Clear braces use a ceramic material which blends in with the colour of your teeth. This makes the braces incredibly discreet to wear. What's more, the ceramic material won't stain or discolour over time, so throughout your treatment journey you're guaranteed the clear braces will go largely unnoticed.

The ceramic material is also incredibly strong and robust, which reduces the risk of breakages or damage, but they’re still comfortable to wear because the brackets are smaller than you find in other types of braces.
