Treatment for children

Treatment for children

To give your child the best start in life, establishing a good oral hygiene routine is essential. Clean healthy teeth not only look good but they contribute to greater well-being too. At Pallant Orthodontics, we encourage families to bring their children in for an early orthodontic consultation as part of this routine.

Why is an orthodontic consultation important?

The British Orthodontic Society (BOS) recommends all children are seen by an orthodontist by the age of 11, if not earlier. This is a recommendation we agree with because it also makes our job much easier. When a child comes in for an orthodontic consultation, we can assess the state of their teeth and jaws while they are still in the growing phase and therefore identify as problems which may occur later on.

It also means we can potentially reduce the amount of treatment - and treatment fees - that may be needed in your child's teenage years.

Benefits of an early consultation

Bringing your child in for an orthodontic consultation by the age of 11 has many benefits, including:

  • Making them feel comfortable in the orthodontic environment
  • Proactively identifying any treatment requirements that may be needed
  • Establishing a good oral hygiene routine, with advice from the professionals
  • Reducing the amount of orthodontic treatment, or the length of time required for treatment, later on
  • Encouraging them to take ownership of the care of their teeth.
