What are Fixed braces / Train tracks?

At Pallant Orthodontics, we have chosen to use the Empower brand of traditional metal braces. These braces – made by American Orthodontics – are similar to traditional metal braces and use brackets and archwires to move your teeth into position. However, they come with a modern twist.

The Empower system uses what are called ‘self-ligating brackets’ to move the teeth. These use low friction and light forces, which potentially reduce the number of appointments required. Furthermore, the braces are more comfortable than standard braces, because the brackets are small and smooth.

Clear braces work like traditional metal braces, with a small bracket fitted to the front surface of your teeth and an archwire connecting them together. The difference between clear braces and traditional metal braces is the material that the brackets are made from.

Clear braces use a ceramic material which blends in with the colour of your teeth. This makes the braces incredibly discreet to wear. What’s more, the ceramic material won’t stain or discolour over time, so the clear braces will go largely unnoticed throughout your treatment journey.

The ceramic material is also incredibly strong and robust, which reduces the risk of breakages or damage, while still being comfortable to wear.
